Mick Garris my not be a household name but amongst the horror faithful, he is very well known. Not only for his numerous Stephen King collaborations and the immensely entertaining CRITTERS 2, but also for his legendary curating. Garris has been a fan of the genre all his life and while he has never fancied himself a messiah in the way of horror curating, it is definitely one of the things he is most known for.
One of the primary reasons Garris was on hand for the “Stanley Film Festival” this year, was to moderate a Q & A with “Master of Horror” award recipient Stuart Gordon following a 30th anniversary screening of RE-ANIMATOR. As I said, this man knows his horror.
Garris was kind enough to chat with us at length about everything from his own directorial efforts, to his collaborations with the legendary Stephen King, to his thoughts on the genre through the years. We found him to be friendly, accessible, and incredibly gracious. Have a look.
We’ve also included a bonus link; An interview Garris did with John Carpenter, David Cronenberg, and John Landis back in the early 80’s. It’ll give you but a taste of this man’s understanding of all things horror.
