YOU MOVE LIKE A PREGNANT YAK

Ok, so this is awesome news!! It looks like Shane Black (IRON MAN 3, KISS KISS BANG BANG) is going to be bringing REMO WILLIAMS back to the big screen but this won’t be a reboot of the awesome 80’s adventure flick starring Fred Ward and Joel Grey. Presumably, this will be more faithful to the DESTROYER pulp novel series.
I haven’t read the novels, but I’m big fan of the 1985 movie. I’m also a big fan of Shane Black and quite frankly, I can’t wait to see what a screenwriter of his caliber does with a character like Remo Williams.
For those not familar with the source material, THE DESTROYER tells the tale of Remo Williams–A Newark detective who’s framed for murder. Shortly thereafter, Williams manages to escape a botched execution attempt and then, he’s taken in by a secret organization and trained to kick ass.
The Guy Hamilton directed 80’s flick played as a light hearted adventure and it was known, primarily, for a wonderfully gizzled Fred Ward, tightrope walking dobermans, and co-star Joel Grey’s portrayal as an Asian kung fu master called Chiun. Yes, that Joel Grey… The white actor known for iconic musicals like CABARET. I know it all sounds weird, but it also happened to be a hell of a lot of fun. I suspect this updated version will be a lot edgier, and since it’s Black putting this bad boy together, I trust it’s going to be something special.
Given the massive financial success of the polarizing IRON MAN 3, it looks as if Black is a hot commodity again. Hell, this might be the hottest he’s been since burning on to the scene with his LETHAL WEAPON screenplay in the 80’s. In addition to REMO WILLIAMS, Black is also attached to DOC SAVAGE and a new PREDATOR movie.
