DAMN GOOD COFFEE

It looks like it’s official! David Lynch, cinema’s greatest surrealist, is bringing TWIN PEAKS back to television! To coincide with the 25th anniversary of the day the series ended, Lynch and Mark Frost will bring the show to Showtime in 2016. Cooler still, Lynch will reportedly direct and co-write all 9 episodes!
Everything plot related is pretty much speculative at this point as Lynch and Frost are playing it close to the vest. Deadline.com suggests that the limited run series will most likely take place in present day and that there’s a strong possibility that TWIN PEAKS star Kyle MacLachlan will return as Agent Cooper.
The original series weaved it’s strange and haunting tale around the mysterious murder of Twin Peaks’ own Laura Palmer. The show was atmospheric and stylish, and the genre-bending proceedings were punctuated by a brilliant Angelo Badalamenti score (which you’ll hear in an awesome teaser announcement for the upcoming series.)
As you probably gathered, TWIN PEAKS left a lot of unanswered questions but the ambiguity at the heart of the series served it far more effectively than it did in LOST. The series also spawned an effective prequel in the form of 1992’s theatrically released motion picture, TWIN PEAKS: FIRE WALK WITH ME.
I’m intrigued at the very notion of a real time sequel to this series and the fact that Lynch is writing and directing, gives me hope that this new incarnation of TWIN PEAKS will be weird in all the right ways.
