BURYINGTHEEXTICKETSFEATTHE GREAT JOE DANTE IS BACK!

Article by Adam Mast

We’ve never hidden our love for Joe Dante here at Cinemast.net. I grew up on his films in the 80’s and I’m a frequent visitor of his trailersfromhell.

Back in December of 2013, we had an opportunity to visit the set of BURYING THE EX for a day, and while it was a mellow shooting day, it was an absolute thrill to watch Dante in action.

In the Alan Trezza scripted zom-rom-com BURYING THE EX, likable Anton Yelchin plays Max, a man ready to move on from a stale relationship. When tragedy claims the life of  girlfriend Evelyn (the  lovely Ashley Greene), Max is given an opportunity to start over. Ultimately, he finds a new love in the form of  Olivia (the gorgeous Alexandra Daddario), but the strength of this blossoming relationship is tested when Evelyn returns from the grave to claim what she believes is rightfully hers.

Summer 2015 is crowded with highly anticipated titles like AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON, JURASSIC WORLD, and TERMINATOR: GENISYS,  but quite frankly, I’m more excited to experience the return of Joe Dante. Sadly, BURYING THE EX is getting a very small theatrical release and while I encourage everyone to see it in a theater if it opens in your neck of  woods on June 19th, you’ll also have the opportunity to see it via VOD  on that same day.

And if you live in the L.A. area, I’ve got even better news for you! BURYING THE EX will have a red carpet premiere at the Egyptian Theater in Hollywood on Thursday, June 11th. And this premiere is open to the public! What’s more, Dante and his cast and crew will be on hand for a post-screening Q & A.

If that weren’t grand enough, The American Cinematheque  is also presenting a Joe Dante retrospective, called “The Atomo-Vision of Joe Dante,”  from June 10th-14th. Titles will include GREMLINS, GREMLINS 2, THE ‘BURBS, MATINEE, INNERSPACE, EXPLORERS,  and BURYING THE EX. All on the big screen! And Dante is expected to be on hand for a Q & A following each screening.   For tickets, CLICK HERE.

It’s times like this I wish I still lived in L.A. If you do happen to live in the area or don’t mind taking a road trip, I can’t recommend this retrospective enough.

To get you in the mood, enjoy our chat with Joe Dante from “The 2014 Stanley Film Festival.”
