In case you haven’t heard, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck have decided to bring PROJECT GREENLIGHT back. It was nearly a decade ago that the film-making reality show ended its three season run. The program, which gives amateur film-makers an opportunity to shoot a movie with a substantial budget, produced names like Pete Jones (STOLEN SUMMER), Kyle Ranken & Efram Potelle (THE BATTLE OF SHAKER HEIGHTS), and John Gulager (FEAST). The series also helped usher in the screenwriting careers of Erica Beeney (THE BATTLE OF SHAKER HEIGHTS), and Marcus Dunston & Patrick Melton (FEAST).
In the ten years since PROJECT GREENLIGHT has gone off the air, the film-making landscape has changed in a big way. With the advancement of computer software programs and digital video equipment, the sky’s the limit, particularly if you have the ability to tell a story.
PROJECT GREENLIGHT will return to HBO very soon. The series will see Damon and Affleck pick their favorite director and writer based on viewing a handful of creative film submissions at the PROJECT GREENLIGHT web site. The HBO series will document the winning contestants as they set out to make a movie under the mentorship of Damon, Affleck, and their veteran team.
The deadline for film submissions has passed, but you can still get involved by offering your services as a judge at the PROJECT GREENLIGHT web site. As a judge, you will have the opportunity to rate up to thirty 3-minute short films at random (don’t wait–judging ends on August 22nd, 2014.) Through this process, submissions will be narrowed down to a handful of finalists. The reputable team behind PROJECT GREENLIGHT will then choose the best of the best.
Support this endeavor from Damon and Affleck. It’s quite extraordinary to see these super star talents giving back to an up and coming film-making community, but more importantly, you’ll have a hand in ushering new film-making talent. Just click the link to find out how;
