David O. Russell has come along way from his volatile days as a hot headed auteur. His extreme temper tantrums on the sets of THREE KINGS and I HEART HUCKABEES are very well documented, but here in the last decade or so, Russell has completely re-invented himself. He’s evolved into a filmmaker that everyone wants to work with. One thing that remains the same though, is his quality of work.
THE FIGHTER, SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK, and AMERICAN HUSTLE, are all rightfully held in high regard, and this wonderful storyteller is showing no signs of slowing down.
This Christmas, Russell offers up his latest cinematic effort, a Jennifer Lawrence headlined drama called JOY. Not a whole lot of info in regard to the story here and this trailer doesn’t go out of its way to fill you in on the overall plot, but no matter. This clip is positively mesmerizing.
JOY opens on Christmas Day.
