LIVE BY NIGHT

The first time Ben Affleck adapted a Dennis Lehane novel it resulted in the GOOD WILL HUNTING screenwriter’s stunning directorial debut, GONE BABY GONE. So, it seems only fitting that the actor-turned-director would try his hand at another Lehane adaptation. This time, it’s LIVE BY NIGHT, an epic crime drama set in the prohibition era. It’s kind of like Affleck doing his take on THE UNTOUCHABLES!
This LIVE BY NIGHT trailer offers up a peek at a movie that looks gritty and pretty damn slick and I can’t speak for anybody else, but for my money, Affleck has proven himself to be a stronger director than an actor so I’m pretty excited for this! At the very least, LIVE BY NIGHT should more than tide us over until we get Affleck’s standalone BATMAN movie.
SYNOPSIS:
“Set in the roaring `20s when Prohibition hasn’t stopped the flow of booze in an underground network of gangster-run speakeasies. The opportunity to gain power and money is there for any man with enough ambition and nerve and Joe Coughlin, the son of the Boston Police Superintendent, long ago turned his back on his strict upbringing for the spoils of being an outlaw. But even among criminals there are rules and Joe breaks a big one: crossing a powerful mob boss by stealing his money and his moll. The fiery affair ends in tragedy, setting Joe on a path of revenge, ambition, romance and betrayal that propels him out of Boston and up the ladder of Tampa’s steamy rum-running underworld.”
