LOOK! ANOTHER REMAKE!

With Disney’s live action remake of THE JUNGLE BOOK less than two months away, the Mouse House is already hard at work on another redo of a magical film from their historic vault. That’s right, folks! PETE’S DRAGON is getting the reboot treatment.
What I really dig about this trailer is its sense of mystery and its much welcome reluctance to give us an over abundance of dragon shots. It reminds me of the days when trailers like E.T. and GREMLINS reigned supreme. Quite honestly, I didn’t even know that this was a PETE’S DRAGON trailer until the very end of the clip and that’s something to be admired.
It’s been a long time since I’ve seen the original PETE’S DRAGON–I loved it as a child– so it’s a little difficult for me to tell how closely this story will stick to the source material, but this trailer gives the film a TARZAN meets HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON vibe. Beyond that, it’s also quite clear that the dragon in this picture wont be hand drawn.
Disney’s PETE’S DRAGON stars Robert Redford, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Oakes Fegley. This update was directed by AIN’T THEM BODIES SAINTS helmer, David Lowery. It swoops into theaters on August 12th, 2016.
