IT’S GOING TO BE A QUENTIN TARANTINO CHRISTMAS!
Article by Adam Mast
As if THE FORCE AWAKENS and SPECTRE weren’t enough to be excited about this upcoming holiday movie season, we have a new Quentin Tarantino film to look forward to as well.
THE HATEFUL EIGHT is slated for release nationwide on Jan. 8th, 2016, but for a handful of lucky movie fans, you’ll have an opportunity to see the movie starting on Christmas Day…In glorious 70mm, no less! That’s right! In this day and age of digital everything, Tarantino’s latest effort will be presented by way of good old fashioned celluloid.
It seems that Tarantino, The Weinstein Group, and crew are going to be retrofitting a handful of theaters in the U.S. so that fans will have the luxury of experiencing THE HATEFUL EIGHT just the way this iconic auteur wants you to experience it. This exclusive two week engagement is exciting news and it should come as absolutely no surprise to Tarantino fans as the filmmaker has been a huge proponent of film for his entire career. He even took over the New Beverly in Los Angeles and essentially deemed it a “celluloid only” zone.
As for THE HATEFUL EIGHT, it continues in the proud tradition of the recent “revisionist history” phase of Tarantino’s incredible career. This post-Civil War drama takes place during a blizzard in Wyoming and revolves around a group of bounty hunters who are all but forced to seek shelter under the same roof. Expect colorful dialogue, deception, and double crossing. Expect amazing performances too! THE HATEFUL EIGHT has an insanely cool cast featuring the likes of Kurt Russell, Bruce Dern, Samuel L. Jackson, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Walter Goggins, Demian Bachir, Michael Madsen, Tim Roth, and Gene Jones.
Interesting side note: A couple of years back, this film was on the verge of being scrapped after the screenplay leaked online. Tarantino was so furious about the leak that he considered shelving the project, but then, following a live reading of the script in L.A., he thankfully had a change of heart.
Nothing says “Merry Christmas” like a Quentin Tarantino movie and having a chance to see THE HATEFUL EIGHT in 70mm is like getting an awesome Christmas bonus! Now, here’s hoping that Tarantino gives us a taste of his latest effort at Comic-Con in San Diego next month. Eight minutes would be great!!
