THE FORCE AWAKENS THE HOBBIT
Article by Adam Mast
Maybe the reality has yet to sink in, but it’s true. A new STAR WARS movie is coming! As you may already be aware, J.J. Abrams and crew have completed filming and now, the highly anticpated RETURN OF THE JEDI follow-up is knee deep in post production.
Even though EPISODE VII doesn’t open until December of 2015, fans are dying for a peek and it looks like they’ll get their wish just in time for Christmas.
Just a few days ago, Devin Faraci of badassdigest.com revealed that his sources are telling him that we could be getting a teaser trailer for EPISODE VII within the next four or five weeks. But where might we see it? Some speculated it would be during the Super Bowl, a rumor that didn’t sit well with me at all. I can’t speak for the rest of you, but I sure as hell don’t want to experience my first look at a new STAR WARS movie on t.v.
Thankfully, it looks like we’ll be seeing this thing well before the Super Bowl. By way of a not so subtle tweet (which has since been deleted), EPISODE VII first assistant director Thomas Gormley indicated that if you really want to see THE FORCE AWAKENS teaser trailer, you should make sure you go to see THE HOBBIT: THE BATTLE OF THE FIVE ARMIES on opening weekend.
If this news is accurate, it’s not at all surprising. True, STAR WARS and THE HOBBIT are distributed by different studios, but the fan bases couldn’t be any more similar. Furthermore, two years ago, Abrams and Bad Robot dropped nearly 10 minutes of advanced footage of STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS before Imax screenings of THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY, so it’s not like rival studios aren’t willing to join forces in the name of fan service every now and again.
Per the scoop over at badassdigest.com, Faraci also goes on to give a description of what his sources say this 60 second teaser trailer will consist of. Don’t worry though. I’m not going to reveal it here.
On a final note, none of this treaer trailer news has actually been confirmed by Disney or Lucasfilm but Faraci has solid sources and many of their claims have been right on the money in the past. This, coupled with Gormley’s tweet (despite the mysterious deletion) leads me to believe that this is probably a done deal.
Anyone else excited about this news?!
UPDATED:
/Film just broke an interesting story in regard to the upcoming THE FORCE AWAKENS trailer. Apparently, a handful of lucky movie goers may get to see the trailer as early as Thanksgiving weekend! Further still, the trailer is reportedly 90 seconds long. You’re probably thinking; “Why all this fuss over a silly movie trailer?” Well, if you’re a hardcore STAR WARS fan, you probably wouldn’t ask that question.
