“DID I STUTTER?”
Article by Adam Mast
When talking about great film-makers who made their mark during the 80’s, John Hughes’ name is quite often left out of the discussion. A shame because he’s certainly one of the brightest film-makers to come out of this particular decade. No one captured the spirit of teen angst quite like the great John Hughes.
While SIXTEEN CANDLES put this wonderful talent on the directorial map, THE BREAKFAST CLUB has always been the Hughes title that spoke to me most. And that’s saying a lot given that this is the same man who wrote FERRIS BUELLER’S DAY OFF, PLANES, TRAINS, AND AUTOMOBILES, UNCLE BUCK, PRETTY IN PINK, SOME KIND OF WONDERFUL, and HOME ALONE.
It’s hard to believe that THE BREAKFAST CLUB is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. It seems like it was just yesterday that I was spending Saturday detention with Claire, John, Andrew, Brian, and Allison. But it’s true. Here we are, 30 years later.
In celebration of this milestone, Fathom Events is holding two special theatrical screenings of THE BREAKFAST CLUB in select theaters nationwide on March 26th and March 31st. The film has been digitally remastered in preparation of its upcoming dvd and Blu-ray release. I don’t know about you but the very idea of getting to experience a monumentally awesome BREAKFAST CLUB soundtrack after a digital overhaul has me positively giddy. What’s more, theses exclusive screenings will include a special featurette with cast and crew interviews.
I love, love, love THE BREAKFAST CLUB. It is, quite simply, an unforgettable part of my teen experience. You can bet I’ll be attending one of these special showings. You should too!
