There are movies that look breathtaking, and then, there is THE REVENANT! Directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu (who recently won the Best Picture Oscar for his polarizing BIRDMAN) and starring an intense Leonardo DiCaprio, THE REVENANT takes place in the 1820’s and tells the tale of a frontiersman who heads out on a vengeful mission following a horrific bear mauling.
THE REVENANT also stars the great Tom Hardy. Between this picture and FURY ROAD, it’s safe to say this guy isn’t afraid of a grueling shoot.
THE REVENANT was shot by brilliant DP Emmanuel Lubezki (GRAVITY, BIRDMAN) using only natural light. It was a rigorous production because of the harsh location weather conditions, but this trailer certainly suggests that all the hard work has paid off in a big way.
What else can I say? This movie looks positively stunning!
THE REVENANT opens in limited release on Christmas Day.
