JOSEPH GORDON-LEVITT WALKS THE WALK IN THE TRAILER FOR ROBERT ZEMECKIS’ “THE WALK”
Article by Adam Mast
I don’t know about the rest of you, but I love me some Robert Zemeckis. The man behind the BACK TO THE FUTURE trilogy, WHO FRAMED ROGER RABBIT, and FORREST GUMP spent nearly a decade dabbling in mo-cap/animation with efforts like THE POLAR EXPRESS, BEOWULF, and A CHRISTMAS CAROL before returning to live action with the Denzel Washington fronted drama FLIGHT. I thought FLIGHT was well made and Washington was great in it but I’ve seen stronger movies about addiction.
With THE WALK, Zemeckis focusses on Philippe Petit, a tightrope walker who would set out to walk from one World Trade Center building to the other back in the 70’s. Of course, the walk wasn’t sanctioned so Petit and his merry band of cohorts had to plan meticulously for weeks if they were going to pull this death defying stunt off.
Petit’s story was chronicled in a brilliant documentary called MAN ON WIRE. Here, Joseph Gordon-Levitt fills Petit’s shoes but Zemeckis looks to be the real star with what appears to be a dizzying, high wire act in glorious Imax 3D. THE WALK opens in October.
