EVERY SAGA HAS A BEGINNING!
Article by Adam Mast
WET HOT AMERICAN SUMMER has garnered quite the cult following since its release in 2001, and after all these years, the great David Wain (ROLE MODELS, THEY CAME TOGETHER) is taking us back to camp by way of a Netflix prequel series.
The original film featured a barrage of funny performers before they became household names. Bradley Cooper, Amy Poehler, Elizabeth Banks, Paul Rudd, etc. A lot of familiar faces in there. The movie itself poked fun at summer camp films, underdog sports clichés, and horny teen scenarios all set to an 80’s backdrop. If WET HOT AMERICAN SUMMER proved anything, it’s not only that Wain is a funny son of a bitch, but that he has a great love for MEATBALLS, and who can blame him for that?
Now, Wain and co-writer Michael Showalter are taking us back to the beginning, and they’re bringing some of those same familiar faces back with them. Based on this hilarious, vintage, 80’s-style commercial, I think it’s safe to say that this particular prequel will be much more entertaining than THE PHANTOM MENACE.
WET HOT AMERICAN SUMMER: FIRST DAY OF CAMP premieres on Netflix on July 31, 2015.
