“RE-ANIMATOR” SCREENING WITH DIRECTOR STUART GORDON IN THE HOUSE!
Article by Cragun Clayburn

So I was making the rounds through my mundane life, at the beginning of a seemingly mundane month, when out of the blue I received a phone call from my good friend Adam Mast, who was about to hit me with an awesome surprise.  It turns out I’m gearing up to embark on a road trip with two of my favorite people,  Jeffery Sanders, and of course Adam.  On April 29th we will be traveling to Estes Park, Colorado, and meeting up with Cinemast.net editor John Pugh,  to attend the infamous 2015 Stanley Horror Film Festival.  We are all horror film junkies, and in fact, I’ve even contributed a handful of horror reviews to this very site. For the horror junkie, there is simply no better festival than the Stanley.

This horror showcase takes place at the Stanley Hotel, a breathtaking resort made famous for its creepy atmosphere and for being the inspiration for the Overlook hotel in Stephen King’s  celebrated novel “The Shining.”  This is the perfect back drop for what can best be described as a horror enthusiast’s wet dream, a place in which renowned horror film-makers from around the globe debut their most recent works.  It is also a place to pay homage to classic horror films of the past.

Each year,  Stanley bestows a “Master of Horror”  award upon one outstanding film-maker.  I was ecstatic to learn that this year,  that honor will go to one of my all-time favorite film-makers, Stuart Gordon, the director of several terror-ific horror films including FROM BEYOND, CASTLE FREAK, and of course his masterpiece, an unforgettable adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft’s RE-ANIMATOR.

This year, The Stanley Film Fest  is hosting a special screening of RE-ANIMATOR in honor of its 30th Anniversary.  Being that this is one of my top three favorite horror films of all time, I couldn’t be any more excited.  For those attending The Stanley Film Festival, it’s not like you need an extra reason to attend this screening, but here’s a good one for you anyway; “Master of Horror” recipient Stuart Gordon will be on hand for what I’m sure will be a rousing (and informative) post-screening Q & A moderated by film-maker, Mick Garris! With any luck, Barbara Crampton will make an appearance too!

RE-ANIMATOR charmed its way to cult status by means of a perfect blend of comedy, horror, gore, and shock value of the highest order, and it is a cult which I’m incredibly proud to be a member of.

RE-ANIMATOR, starring the great Jeffrey Combs, the lovely Barbara Crampton, and the under appreciated Bruce Abbott, will screen at The Stanley Film Festival on Saturday, May 2nd at 4 PM. For ticket info, CLICK HERE.
