DOCUTAH TO BRING LEGENDARY FISHBONE BACK TO SOUTHERN UTAH!

HISTORY WILL REPEAT ITSELF AS DOCUTAH BRINGS

LEGENDARY FISHBONE BACK TO SOUTHERN UTAH’S

THE ELECTRIC THEATER!

Article by Adam Mast

The year was 2010. It was a lovely Sunday evening in sleepy little St. George, UT. Filmmaker Chris Metzler and crew were on hand to present a screening of a Fishbone documentary called “Everyday Sunshine” at The Electric Theater during DocUtah‘s historic inaugural year. This wonderful movie perfectly encapsulates the spirit of a band that would inspire the likes of Red Hot Chili Peppers and Gwen Stefani of No Doubt fame, even though they, themselves, would not quite enjoy the same massive success that these particular artists have enjoyed throughout their respective careers.

Not that it matters, because success isn’t always measured by way of dollar signs, as Fishbone has illustrated time and time again throughout an influential, decades-long career. Led by charismatic frontman Angelo Moore, Fishbone is known for bringing the energy whenever they perform no matter how large the crowd, and this was more than  evident during DocUtah 2010 because following that amazing “Everyday Sunshine” screening, the band actually came out on stage and lit the Electric Theater up, much to the delight of those lucky enough to be in attendance!

That’s right! Fishbone live…In St. George, UT… On a Sunday, no less!! As you probably guessed, it wasn’t exactly a packed house, but you’d never know that after experiencing the fashion in which this band performed! Fishbone rocked the house in a way that would lead one to believe this was a sold out stadium gig. It was a stunning display of pure unadulterated funk and rock, and it has become the stuff of urban legend.

I use the term urban legend because some local folk don’t believe the show actually took place. Well, I was there with a handful of other fans and I can tell you without question, the show did in fact happen… AND IT WAS AMAZING! Here’s a bit of video as proof:

Well, guess what? Great news for Fishbone fans and lovers of influential musicianship in general! The fine folks behind DocUtah have invited the band back to town and being the fan-friendly legends that the members of Fishbone are, they have graciously accepted the invitation. Therefore, those lucky precious few who saw history made here in St. George, UT back in 2010, you’re cordially invited to see history repeat itself. For everyone else, come on out to the Electric Theater on Saturday, May 26th, and experience what is likely to be the definitive Southern Utah based concert event of the summer!

What’s more, this is a twofer! The evening will start out with a screening of “Everyday Sunshine” hosted by director Chris Metzler! This is an outstanding, infectiously likable cinematic portrait of Fishbone put together by genuine fans of the band. The screening will immediately be followed by a live Fishbone performance! A performance that is sure to keep you energized long after you’ve left The Electric Theater. Yep! this is an evening you won’t want to miss!
