SONY PICTURES MAY BE SITTING HALL H OUT THIS YEAR BUT THE FAMED STUDIO WILL STILL BE WELL REPRESENTED AT SAN DIEGO COMIC-CON!
Article by Adam Mast
With Comic-Con International less than two weeks away and the line-up officially revealed, those who were lucky enough to score badges to fanboy (and fangirl) Christmas are, no doubt, in the midst of planning their Con schedules. Through the years, legendary Hall H has been known for its epic movie presentations but the last couple of years have seen a dramatic shift from film to television. So it should come as no surprise that several studios have decided to forgo Hall H this year. One of those studios is Sony Pictures. But just because Sony wont be in Hall H doesn’t mean this particular studio wont be well represented at the Con. Far from it. In fact, rather than showing a product reel, Sony has decided to show two of their most hotly anticipated upcoming releases in their entirety!
In terms of tone, these movies couldn’t be any different from one another, but one thing they have in common is that they both look like a whole lot of awesome!!
SAUSAGE PARTY
This irreverent animated feature from Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg looks to do for Pixar efforts what DEADPOOL did for the superhero genre. This clever bit of R rated goodness tells the tale of a plethora of joyful supermarket items who want nothing more than to be purchased and taken to the homes of their consumers. Of course, when said items discover a shocking truth, they quickly come to the realization that “consumer” has more than one meaning.
Irreverent R rated fare tends to be a bit too heady for Hall H, so on Thursday July 21st, Sony has decided to take SAUSAGE PARTY to San Diego’s Horton Plaza. The excitement will begin at 5:45 with a live panel comprised of SAUSAGE PARTY creators Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. The panel will be followed by a pre-party (a real sausage party, perhaps) and a screening of the film. That’s right! A handful of lucky Comic-Con attendees will get to see SAUSAGE PARTY nearly a month early!
This panel is part of Comic-Con programming which leads me to believe that a Comic-Con badge will get you in provided you’re in line early enough to get a seat. As for the screening, I can only assume that those who make it into the actual panel will get to hang around, attend the party, and see the movie too!
DON’T BREATHE
This latest horror effort from Fede Alvarez (the man behind the popular EVIL DEAD reboot) finds a team of burglars meeting their match in the form of a blind man (played by the great Stephen Lang). But this isn’t just any blind man. This blind man has a particular set of skills and before long, these inexperienced criminals realize you should never judge a book by its cover. If the trailer for DON’T BREATHE is any indication, Alvarez is trading in the in-your-face gore of EVIL DEAD for the kind of sweat inducing suspense that would make the likes of Alfred Hitchcock proud. DON’T BREATH has been garnering a steady stream of positive buzz since screening at South By Southwest earlier this year and experiencing this flick with a Comic-Con crowd seems like the best possible way to experience it!
DON’T BREATH will screen at San Diego’s Horton Plaza at 10 PM on Thursday, July 21st. A handful of sites–including collider.com and bloodydisgusting.com–have already given away tickets, but we suspect Sony and Ghost House Pictures will be giving passes away for the screening during the Con as well. For those attending, be sure to keep an eye out.
SAUSAGE PARTY and DON’T BREATHE back to back at Comic-Con?! Yes please!
If any more ticket info for either of these screenings becomes available, we’ll be sure to post it right here.
