ON OCTOBER 21ST, UNIVERSAL PICTURES IS TAKING US “BACK!”
Article by Adam Mast
BACK TO THE FUTURE celebrated its 30th anniversary just a few weeks ago prompting many fans to ask why we didn’t see more BACK TO THE FUTURE related events taking place last month. The answer to that question is simple. It’s because Universal is holding off until October 21st. As fans are already well aware, October 21st is the day that Marty McFly went “back,” so it seems only fitting that October 21st be a day of grand BACK TO THE FUTURE-inspired celebration.
In honor of a brand new upcoming BACK TO THE FUTURE trilogy Blu-ray set, Universal has decided to give fans a rare opportunity to see all three movies on the big screen again, and I for one couldn’t be anymore excited. This special October 21st event is expected to take place at theaters all across the U.S. (we’ll post theater listings here as soon as they become available.)
BACK TO THE FUTURE features what is considered by many to be one of the best written screenplays of the 80’s and it’s also the film that truly put director Robert Zemeckis on the map. For the three of you who haven’t seen this classic, it tells the story of Marty McFly (played by the great Michael J. Fox)–a teen who travels from 1985 to 1955 by way of a time travelling DeLorean created by eccentric inventor Doc Brown (played with wide eyed glee by a hilarious Christopher Lloyd). Upon arrival, Marty comes face to face with his parents (a gorgeous Lea Thompson and a quirky Crispin Glover) before they fall in love, and eventually, all kinds of craziness ensues. Simply put, BACK TO THE FUTURE is pure movie magic.
As is the case with most fans, BACK THE FUTURE has a very special place in my heart. It’s a title that stands tall amongst a grand decade of unforgettable motion picture experiences and it would go on to spawn two very entertaining sequels. I can proudly say I was fortunate enough to see all three films on opening day, and in fact, in 1990, the day PART III was released, I was even crazy enough (or, passionate enough–depending on your point of view) to camp out in front of Hollywood’s Cinerama Dome for several hours with my best high school buddy Ted, all in an effort to experience the entire trilogy back, to back, to back on opening night!

It was an absolute blast of day made all the more thrilling by the unexpected appearances of BACK TO THE FUTURE screenwriters Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale. If seeing them in person wasn’t amazing enough, they were even kind enough to autograph our BACK TO FUTURE trilogy t-shirts!
Bless Universal for giving us all an opportunity to see the BACK TO THE FUTURE trilogy on the big screen again. On October 21st 2015, you can damn well bet I’ll be going “Back!”
