THE IRISHMAN Movie Trailer
Released by Netflix
Review by Adam Mast
Martin Scorsese plus Robert DeNiro plus Joe Pesci plus Al Pacino plus Steven Zaillian equals the motion picture event of the year! Not that you need a reason beyond Scorsese to see THE IRISHMAN. Whenever the man behind GOODFELLAS drops a new project, it’s much more than a release…IT’S AN EVENT!
Netflix has just shared the first trailer for THE IRISHMAN and as expected, it’s a doozy! There’s been a lot of talk of the effects work that went into this picture. Given that the film spans decades, a lot of time and care has gone into the much-talked about de-aging process that makes up a great deal of the film but it says a lot about Team Scorsese that visual effects are not the emphasis of this first official look at THE IRISHMAN. And in fact, the majority of this trailer focuses on characters and relationships. That said, there is a prominent effects shot on display and it’s bound to be talked about. That said, for my money, young DeNiro looks considerably more effective than that creepy Tarkin in ROGUE ONE.
No matter your thoughts on the effects, THE IRISHMAN looks to be another glorious epic from one of our greatest living storytellers. This Jimmy Hoffa-centric crime drama will premiere at the New York Film Festival in September followed by a theatrical release in the fall. The film will drop on Netflix shortly thereafter.
Synopsis: “Martin Scorsese’s THE IRISHMAN, an epic saga of organized crime in post-war America told through the eyes of World War II veteran Frank Sheeran, a hustler and hitman who worked alongside some of the most notorious figures of the 20th Century. Spanning decades, the film chronicles one of the greatest unsolved mysteries in American history, the disappearance of legendary union boss Jimmy Hoffa, and offers a monumental journey through the hidden corridors of organized crime: its inner workings, rivalries and connections to mainstream politics.”
