THE MUCK (NR)
Released by Scotchworthy Productions
Review by Jeff Sanders

From it’s synthy old school score to its spot on retro effects, THE MUCK is an awesome little flick that has to be seen to be truly appreciated. Tony Wash, the short film’s director knows the genre like the back of his hand, but still knows how to be fresh and funky.

The story, which is a simple set up about a young woman coming home to her mundane life to get cleaned up after a stint at an aerobics class, is a perfect excuse to unleash the creep factor as well as a handful of wonderfully quirky moments (her husband’s Steven Wright answering machine message is a nice little nugget.) Unfortunately, our protagonist  misses the memo on the counter about the water pipelines getting worked on in the neighborhood. And where things go from there…Well…I don’t want to spoil it. Let’s just say that things get a whole hell of a lot more sexy, slimy, and scary for the little lady. For fans of THE BLOB remake and CREEPSHOW 2’s THE RAFT, this film will surely put a sick smile on your face.

THE MUCK has been making the rounds throughout the genre film festival circuit starting at SXSW and since  has played just about everywhere else in the US. And for good reason. Although simple, this short does transcend the normal film festival midnight flick, by being fun, old school, hilarious and absolutely icky. If you see this little gem is playing at a film festival near you, do yourself a favor and give it a look.

Be sure to check out Tony’s Scotchworthy Productions website [CLICK HERE] and his Facebook page [CLICK HERE]. While there, you can follow news on THE MUCK as well as his other films. Be sure to check out all the creative merchandise too.

Also, be on the lookout for WORLD OF DEATH, which Tony and company personally curated. This horror anthology features a collection of awesome genre shorts from all around the world.  It too, has been hopping the festival circuit like NIGHT OF THE LEPUS. Let’s hope we see more projects in the near future from Mr. Wash, as he has the grime and guts to make the genre fans happy.

Take care friends.

Be cool.

Watch movies.

Make stuff.

Jeff.
